It's a Dry Heat

Phoenix has welcomed us with 105 degree temperatures, but it's just a dry heat, perfect for two-a-days.  The doctor visits this week gave us some ups and downs but the ups seem to outweigh the downs.  All of the doctors are great and the Mayo clinic is definitely first class, makes sense because Big Don always encourages us to only associate with The Best.  Based on all of the good wishes and help that we have received thus far from friends and family I think we have done a damn good job.

The doctors made such an impression that I think Bobby already offered up his spot as best man in my wedding to the surgeon.  So sparring everyone of all the details Big Don is getting started on Chemo on Tuesday.  He will have a PET scan on Monday to help stage the cancer as well as go to a class to help with the day to day on chemo we call it Cancer 101 and a class on financial assistance, like I said first class.  The idea moving forward is that a combination of chemo and radiation will make this tumor operable and they can go in and get it out.  They have assured us that they will be as aggressive as possible because Big Don is so young and healthy, other than the tumor of course, and the plan now is three months of chemo three sessions each month so that he can recover in between.  Nine rounds of a heavyweight fight, well welterweight now, Big Don vs. the Tumor, I like our chances.  In preparation he got a new haircut, mom got a manicure and pedicure, they've been walking two miles a day, and they have gotten settled into their new temporary living quarters.  A big thanks to the Kirks for letting them stay at the guest house and ordering the major league baseball package, so don't think we will let the Cardinals slip while chemo is going on.  Again we can't thank everyone enough for all of the love and support,

Round 1 Tuesday.

I heard the news from our friend Lisa and had to look up your Blog right away. I am so sorry that you are having to fight this fight. It sounds like you are all keeping very positive attitudes so keep it up!!! Knowing your ultra competitive spirits I know you will continue to fight hard and support each other!
And...by the way- dislike your comment about the Cubs - it is a sad day today as they lose Sweet Lou too.

  6. All of the beer and wine distributors in Montana - and even further away (e.g., NBWA) are pulling for you, Don. Sounds like you are in the best hands possible and your family is a great support. We are encouraged by this blog as it is quite the game plan. Get that tumor - do it for the Gipper!! Kristi
